As if her husband Chad Johnson’s arrest for allegations of domestic violence was not bad enough, “Basketball Wives” star Evelyn Lozada is also going through another traumatic experience from within her family.
According to TMZ, Lozada is currently mourning the death of her brother-in-law Anthony Ochoa, who passed away recently after a long battle with cancer. Ochoa had appeared alongside her sister Sylvia on the VH1 series before, and he even escorted her down the aisle at her wedding to the NFL superstar this summer. He and his wife, who he was married to for ten years, had two children.
In one of her first statements since Johnson’s arrest (in which she is still staying quiet about), Lozada gave the following statement to the website about Ochoa:
“Anthony was an amazing husband, father, and brother-in-law. He will be dearly missed.”
In case you did not hear Monday, VH1 has already made the decision not to air their planned (and already-filmed) “Basketball Wives” spin-off entitled “Ev & Ocho” due to the arrest, and Johnson has already been cut from the Miami Dolphins thanks to this and a number of team-related issues. These are both shocking moves that show that something as painful as an arrest of this nature has reverberations that extend beyond yourself.
Will she find a way to bounce back from all of this? We are keen to believe so — the lucky thing for her is that she is likely going to have several months to heal in private before “Basketball Wives” really starts to get going again in terms of production. So long as the precedent met last season is matched, the show will probably return with new episodes early this year.
As if it was not already happening before the tragic news about Ochoa came out, thoughts are with Evelyn’s family during this difficult time.
