It looks like no one is going to see the once-happy wedding of Evelyn Lozada and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson after the NFL star’s arrest for domestic violence over the weekend — after all, VH1 has just decided to pull the upcoming “Basketball Wives” spin-off series “Ev & Ocho” before it even airs.
In a new statement (per TMZ), a rep for the network had the following to say about the decision to pull the series prior to its launch next month:
“Due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series ‘Ev and Ocho’ from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it.”
Really, this story shows you one of the biggest problems when it comes to trying to stage any sort of wedding-themed programming — you are dependent on the couple actually staying together long enough for it to be enjoyed. This arrest on Johnson’s part after allegedly headbutting Lozada over the weekend has also cost him his job with the Miami Dolphins — who released him the day after the story first leaked. Johnson was already on a tight leash with the team over his use of profanity during sessions with the media.
Lozada had not spoken out about the arrest since the news first broke, but there are a pair of questions that are at the moment seriously worth asking when it comes to her future:
1. Is she going to stay with Chad despite this altercation, or will she file for divorce?
2. Will she get over the disappointment of losing her spin-off here in time to come back to “Basketball Wives” full-swing?
