If you think that One Direction was just being formed on “The X Factor” at this point last year, then it makes what they have just done all the more remarkable. At the London 2012 Games’ Closing Ceremony Sunday, the British boy band took to the stage in order to perform their hit song “What Makes You Beautiful.”
If you are familiar with the group’s live performances, than most of everything that you see here is going to be pretty par for the course — from the copious amounts of energy to the soaring chorus to even the fashion. The Olympics played a nice assist, as they made this into a giant production full of dancers who were beyond thrilled to be a part of this in any way that they could.
We could try and put what this experience must have been for the boys — in particular how far they have come in just two years — but we’ll let band member Niall Horan do it for us:
“Omg that was unbelievable, highlight of out career, and the biggest audience we will ever play to 1 billion people!
What we hope this really shows future “X Factor” auditioners is this — it’s okay to be in a group, and it is really something you strive for. Here in America, groups haven’t done particularly well on the Simon Cowell-led show — but at this point, One Direction has easily passed Leona Lewis as the most-popular winner to ever come out of this franchise.
What did you think of One Direction’s performance, and do you think it shows anything for people thinking about auditioning for “The X Factor” in the future?
