There’s something rather joyous about getting to be on a series such as “Once Upon a Time” — not only do you have the challenge on tackling one character, but you really playing two different people who are suddenly going to be coming together at the start of the show’s second season. As an actor, this poses all sorts of interesting questions — and even though the residents of Storybrooke are going to be aware of who they were in the past moving forward, that does not mean that they are going to be even remotely the same person that they once were.
With that in mind, we turn to some comments coming to us straight from Josh Dallas. In a new interview with Da Man Magazine, Dallas explains what exactly makes his separate roles so difficult on the show:
“It’s not so much that there are challenges, as much as the two characters live in two different emotional states. In the case of ‘Charming,’ he is forthright, confident, honest and brave. ‘David’ is the opposite: he is weak, confused, and lost. So I use the script as a jumping off point and explore their characteristics accordingly.”
We have talked quite a bit about Snow White and some of the other characters recently, but Dallas has a point here when it comes to Charming — what is going to be particularly interesting to watch here with him is that David was not exactly a likable guy at all during season one — and now, he has to find a way to combine this part of his personality with someone who actually was charming in the other world. Is the Prince going to be able to handle the fact that he was having an affair because he was too cowardly to admit it to his wife? Will he even be able to look at Snow the same way? These are definitely going to be interesting questions to watch moving forward.
