‘The Bachelor’: Ryan Lochte, Mike Fleiss interested; should it happen?

Forget about the likes of Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Sean Lowe for a few minutes — can you see the newest phenom in the world of swimming suddenly take over as “The Bachelor”? This is an idea that we first floated around by us in an article earlier this week, and now we are starting to see some signs that he really is going to dive into either this show or “Dancing with the Stars.”

In a new interview airing on “The Today Show” Friday morning, Lochte told Matt Lauer that he was specifically looking at these two shows, and “Bachelor” executive producer Mike Fleiss also put a teaser out there about a swimming pool on his Twitter. We don’t know if we can stress this enough — ABC needs to jump on this, and fast. Arie may be nice and he has a built-in fan following, but Lochte could actually bring in some new viewers for a show that has been more or less stagnant the past few years. He is worth changing up the formula of having a lead who is already familiar with the show, and we have a feeling producers would have no problem finding women interested in dating him. If “The Bachelor” could even get a marginal percentage of the people watching the Olympics to check out their show, they would see spikes in their viewership. It’s a smart move all around, and then Lochte can following this up by competing against Michael Phelps on “Dancing with the Stars.”

We don’t know if all of this will happen at the end of the day, but the idea of it makes us more excited than we have been when it comes to ABC’s programming in quite some time. Not only is Lochte entertaining to watch, but he’s also something different — and “The Bachelor” really needs a little fresh air at the moment.

How badly do you think “The Bachelor” needs Ryan Lochte, or do you think that they need him at all? We want to hear from you below!┬áTo check out some more of the latest “Bachelor” news, be sure and follow the link here.
