No matter what reality show you are talking about, there always seems to be one name that rises to the top when it comes ot judging rumors as soon as there is an opening — Pink. Unfortunately, there is a problem with this idea — she really doesn’t have any interest at all in doing it.
As a part of a new interview with Australia’s Herald Sun, the “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” singer brings up something that we have been saying is a problem for years when it comes to the attitude people have towards female judges — if they are harsh, they are suddenly looked upon as some sort of pariah:
“I said no because you can’t be honest. People will hate you if you’re honest. Simon Cowell is the only person who gets away with it because he’s got an accent. And he’s a man.
“People would just hate me more than they already do. I don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings. Besides, you can sing karaoke anywhere…”
Pink claims that “The Voice” Australia, “American Idol,” and “The X Factor” have all tried to gauge her interest in joining the shows in the past, likely because they all know that a big personality like hers would create good TV. The interesting thing is that we do feel as though Pink could be someone who changes the perception of what a great judge could be. If you look at the British versions of “The X Factor” and “The Voice,” they have female judges in Jessie J and Tulisa Contostavlos who are strong, opinionated, and thoroughly engaging to watch. That sort of style could go over well in America, but there needs to be someone who sets the precedent. Ultimately, there are going to be critics of what you do no matter what — but we certainly heard more criticism of Jennifer Lopez for being too nice than we did for Jessie J being too harsh.
