As evidenced by the fact that he is turning up again in our Wednesday evening edition of “American Idol” notes, this is turning out to be quite a busy time for Phillip Phillips — and the announcement that came out today is so significant that we could not wait on it.
Major milestones – For the first time since 2008 with David Cook, we have an “American Idol” star at #1 on the Digital Songs chart with a coronation single! Thanks largely to the Summer Olympics, “Home” rose all the way up to the top courtesy of 228,000 digital downloads in the past week. This is actually not as many copies as Phillip sold the first week the song came out, but there is less competition now from the monster known as Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.”
Phillip has also risen to his highest position ever on the Billboard Hot 100 at #9, which is especially fantastic when you consider that he was down in the 80s last week. While these numbers are sure to drop with the Olympics ending, it’s a nice achievement and proof that with the right people around you to promote the song, good things can happen.
Kelly Clarkson visits Mystic Falls – Who knew the season 1 champ was such a fan of vampires — or, specifically, “The Vampire Diaries”? Showrunner Julie Plec had the opportunity to meet Kelly after her show in Hollywood last week, and with that in mind she was promptly invited on a set visit.
The photo to the left was posted online by series star Claire Holt (who plays Original vampire Rebekah), and she also added this caption on Twitter:
“Special visitor on set today … So great to meet you @kelly_Clarkson :).”
“The Vampire Diaries” films in Atlanta, which is where Kelly just so happens to be at the moment performing for her tour. The new season kicks off on The CW Thursday, October 11.
