“Smash” may no be back on television until early next year, but that does not mean that the series is slowing down production on the upcoming collection of episodes in any way. As a matter of fact, we have a new bit of casting news to share!
According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, recent “Rescue Me” star Daniel Sunjata (who has also recently appeared on “Grey’s Anatomy”) is going to be coming on board he show for the recurring role of a love interest for Debra Messing’s character of Julia. As you probably remember, season 1 did a pretty great job of making his character one of the most unlikable in existence. She had an affair with her husband Frank (who is going to no longer be a part of this show), and her attitude about it made her somebody who was never even remotely easy to root for.
Sunjata is joining a number of other new actors for the second season of the musical, with the most notable name being “American Idol” alum and former Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson, who is going to be playing some sort of Broadway legend who comes into contact with Karen (Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty). Expect the show to return in either January or early February, and it will likely serve yet again as a companion to “The Voice” unless “Revolution” takes off and manages to become a full-season wonder for NBC.
Do you even want to see a new love interest for Julia at the moment, especially considering everything that transpired last season? Be sure and share some of your thoughts below! To check out some more scoop pertaining to Hilty and the show, be sure to read our story over at this link.
