We know that Howard Wolowitz is going to spend the first few episodes of “The Big Bang Theory” season 6 in outer space — and with that in mind, we are going to all sorts of comedic possibilities both before and after he gets out of orbit.
So what can we expect once Simon Helberg’s character runs back into his wife Bernadette’s arms? While they will surely be happy to be with each other, it is going to take an adjustment period. As executive producer Chuck Lorre told TV Guide in a new interview, Howard is going to have to get acclimated again with normal society:
“Reorienting [himself] back into the daily stream of life is difficult … After a peak experience like being in outer space, going to the grocery store can be difficult. Also, the hum-drum problems of life find him on the space station. Communication is very easy, so if his mother has a problem, he’s dealing with it from outer space.”
Meanwhile, Bernadette is also going to have to deal with a husband who is suddenly even more full of himself than he ever was before — as hard as that may seem:
“She’s real proud of him. He’s a stud, right? But at the same time, it can be wearisome if your husband is the high school quarterback who can’t forget that one touchdown pass he threw.”
Of course, we have a hard time believing that these two will end up having anything other than a happily ever after at the end of the day … but who ever said that the journey here would be easy? When you have a character who is practically attached at the hip to his own mother, it’s can feel at time next to impossible.
