Pretty much the entire series of “Dexter” has been in some way about secrets, as our title character has worked hard to keep from pretty much everyone that he cares about the fact that he has a double life as a serial killer. However, last season we saw a little bit of a twist on the format near the end, as we realized that Deb was also keeping a secret from him and in many ways herself — she was in love with him. It was one of the most polarizing stories we have seen on the show thus far, mostly because many people, despite watching a show about a killer, were somehow offended by the fact of adopted siblings having romantic feelings.
We’ve heard before that this story is not going to necessarily go away, and this is something that executive producer Scott Buck reminds us of in a new chat with TV Guide:
“The feelings certainly don’t disappear … It’ll be interesting for people to see her first response to that and how that will change over the course of the season as well. As you’ll see, she doesn’t get around to saying that to Dexter [in the premiere]. So in all these previous seasons, it was Dexter with the big secret; now suddenly Deb has the secret.”
We especially don’t think that Deb is going to be in the “I love you” mood at any point during the premiere, and she may feel even worse if she finds out that Travis Marshall is really just the tip of the iceberg. Is this an issue that she will have to move past at some point? Probably, if she wants to be happy in love with someone else — however (and unfortunately for those who hate this story), expect it to be a little bit of a slow burn.
When do you think that Deb will finally reveal the truth to her brother? We want to hear from you below! To check out the newest poster from the new season, be sure and visit the link here.
