‘Jersey Shore’: how Italy took the GTL out of the cast

The new season starts Thursday.

During the first three seasons of “Jersey Shore,” it’s safe to say that we became accustomed to watching a certain sort of routine. The guys in the cast would wake up, hit the gym, go tanning, and the wrap it all up by doing some laundry. “GTL” became a household phrase thanks to the cast member’s lifestyle — but unfortunately for them, the streets of Florence made it a little bit trickier for everyone to engage in business as usual.

Speaking in a new chat with TV Guide to promote the show, cast member Vinny Guadagnino (who has made more headlines recently for walking off during season five’s taping only to return) explains a bit about what made shooting this season so challenging and different from those in the past:

“We rarely made it to the gym. That’s unheard of for us. But it’s not really a big thing there. And these little weird streets that were built in the 1000s… going to the laundromat, you have to haul your luggage through friggin’ Italian villages. That made us stop doing certain things in our routine.”

We have heard time and time again that this foreign setting actually takes its toll worse on the men than the women, and that much of the drama for this season happens between The Situation, Ronnie, Vinny, and Pauly D. We know at least one fight is going to break out here — but there could be plenty more that we don’t know about just yet.

Check back to the site Thursday night after the show, as we will have a full recap of the premiere!
