Just a matter of weeks after he hosted the Teen Choice Awards alongside his longtime friend and “X Factor” judge Demi Lovato, Kevin McHale is now rumored to be one of the candidates (in addition to Khloe Kardashian) in contention to land the much-coveted gig of hosting season 2 of “The X Factor.”
According to TV Guide, McHale is being considered heavily for the job, and it’s hard to argue against it. The actor and former boy band member is known to be a fan of the show, and he even attended a taping last year along with his now-departed co-star Damian McGinty from “The Glee Project.” It’s also yet another way to build a ratings monster on Thursday nights between these shows. At the same time, there is one major question that asked to be asked here — is McHale really going to have time to do both shows? Although he is a series regular on “Glee,” he’s not expected to be in every episode this year courtesy of the show’s shift to New York City — therefore, he may have a little bit more time on his hands.
The one biggest thing that could be standing in his way is that he didn’t necessarily hit it out of the park at the TCAs last month, and much of his banter with Demi felt a bit awkward and forced. However, we also felt the same way about Kaley Cuoco — and she did a great job hosting a different awards show in the People’s Choice Awards. What we are trying to say here is that it may just be all about the writing. McHale has been a good interview for the show in the past, and he is witty and has a great sense of humor. It’s an interesting risk, and he’s sure to bring Simon Cowell in some young viewers.
