Thanks to Demi Lovato’s willingness to open up about her own troubled past, the issue of eating disorders and other forms of self-mutilation have risen to the forefront yet again as one of the biggest issues surrounding young women in society. Now, another young woman is joining her in talking about her own experiences.
“I’ve never really talked about this, but I would go days without eating … Or maybe I’d have some fruit and then go to the gym for three hours.
“I knew I had a problem… It was a gradual process but I changed myself.”
While this sort of struggle is no the sort of thing that many people would choose to disclose publicly, the hope here for such ladies as Lucy and Demi is that in revealing their own struggles, along with how they were able to move past them, other young women may feel inspired to be more open and brave about their own struggles. It takes a change of thinking to inspire a change of action, and the more people are willing to admit that such things are a problem, the more of a support system there will be.
In addition to starring on the popular ABC Family series, Hale also is an aspiring country singer and is a spokesperson for a clothing brand along with some other products. In other words, she is clearly influential with a young audience — and her show’s recent victory at the Teen Choice Awards proves it.
How proud of Lucy are you for speaking out on this cause? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and head over to this link if you want to check out some sneak peeks from Tuesday night’s all-new episode.
