Are we going to see Misha Collins’ Castiel in the present on “Supernatural” this coming season? At the moment, that seems to be pretty unclear — however, we can definitely say now that we are going to be seeing plenty of him in the past.
Speaking in a new interview with E! News, new showrunner Jeremy Carver explains that Cas, at least early on in the season, is going to be used primarily in Dean’s storyline involving purgatory:
“You’re certainly going to see more of him in terms of understanding what happened in purgatory, and that’s as far as we’re going, because it’s fairly significant what happened in purgatory.”
At some point, we do figure that Cas will emerge and be a part of the surface world again — as we have already said, the actor is going to appear in at least eight episodes for this coming season, and we have a hard time thinking that all of them are going to be flashback-centered. However, trying to get scoop beyond the first few episodes of a “Supernatural” season is akin to magically getting everyone to actually watch the show live rather than recording it on their DVR.
Castiel is not the only character Dean will come into contact with in purgatory, as we are also going to meet a vampire with some shifty practices who can help Dean to escape — but we’re assuming that there is probably a price. Isn’t there always?
The new season of “Supernatural” premieres on The CW Wednesday, October 3 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, and we will have more in the way of scoop for the show every step of the way.
