‘American Idol’ notes: Phillip Phillips, Kelly Clarkson, Scotty McCreery

To kick off the week, our new “American Idol” notes contain plenty of music — and also an update as to just how much the Olympic exposure has helped Phillip Phillips in terms of radio airplay.

How’s “Home” doing? – Within the past week on Hot AC radio (which is the primary format in which this song is doing well), the coronation single for the season 11 winner has brought in over 1,360 spins within the past week — which marks an increase of over 200 from the week before. When you consider that the song didn’t even start to pick up steam for another day, this number is even more impressive.

The strong digital sales of the song this week thanks to the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team are going to lead to some sort of surge on the Billboard Hot 100 this week — it peaked at #10 earlier this year immediately after the show’s finale in May.

Kelly covers Anna Nalick – For her newest cover song from one of her major concerts, Kelly Clarkson chose to cover a song by an artist that has unfortunately disappeared off the map as of late in Anna Nalick — whose song “Breathe (2:00 a.m.)” took off a few years ago.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise here at all that Kelly completely and totally nails this.

Scotty at the Opry – This video is a few days older, but it’s still rare to get a great performance of any artist from the Grand Ole Opry — in particular one with an “American Idol” connection. Scotty McCreery performs “The Dance” by Garth Brooks, and gives a performance that certainly does he original justice.

The best thing that Scotty is doing here is that he is establishing some good roots within the world of country music, and some off the institutions that could be helping out his career down the road. It’s a smart move, and a great performance.
