For our Sunday edition of “American Idol” notes, we’re starting out with some major season 12 news — while Nick Jonas may not be confirmed as a judge yet on the show, he is definitely making it clear that there is some interest there on his part.
In a new post on Twitter discussing the subject (which is rare for a possible contender to do since this is typically done behind closed doors), the Jonas Brothers member and Broadway veteran had the following to say:
“The rumors are true… I am being considered to be a judge on American Idol, and it would be a dream come true if it happens. #nickonidol.”
We ultimately don’t know how great of a shot Nick has at landing the job, but there is some obvious appeal here. He may be younger than many of the show’s actual contestants, but he has been around music all his life. He knows what it takes as a member of a group and a solo artist, and would likely bring back some of the young viewers that the show has been missing in recent years. However, we don’t expect him on if the show chooses to book Miley Cyrus alongside Mariah Carey, mostly because they are probably only going to reach into the Disney Vault once.
Some other rumored names include former contestant Adam Lambert, producer Pharrell Williams, and country star Brad Paisley.
Phillip Phillips talks gymnastics feature – Thanks to the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team, our reigning champ on the show has seen his coronation single “Home” suddenly become a smash hit, and it’s certainly made his life a little bit crazy over the past few days. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he did his best to explain how he first found out about the song being used — though he was still stunned to see it as a part of the actual games:
“I’d seen a while back when they had used it. I think they were just qualifying … Then, a couple days ago, I saw a lot of people tweeting, ‘Oh, it’s so cool ‘Home’ is being used in the Olympics!’ We don’t really get to watch much TV, man, with the concerts every night, but I wish I could have seen it. I really just found out through Twitter and my management texting me. I thought it was really awesome.”
Haley raps! – We’ll close with a video from Haley Reinhart performing at Lollapalooza, and it’s pretty awesome. What put it over the top? For us, it was the fact that she rapped the B.o.B part during “Oh My!” — a song that is set to be her latest single. Take a look below and enjoy.
