‘American Idol’ notes: Paul McDonald, Phillip Phillips, Haley Reinhart

For our Friday edition of “American Idol” notes, we are kicking things off with some news that definitely managed to catch us off guard –a certain season 10 alum (and husband to one Nikki Reed) is going to be making a foray into acting.

Paul joins “Parenthood” – According to a new report from TVLine, Paul McDonald has signed on to do a multi-episode storyline on the upcoming season of the NBC drama playing he role of (wouldn’t you have guessed it?) a magician.  Specifically, he is going to use Crosby and Adam’s recording space for a while, and in he process he is also going to steal some attention of their new assistant Amber.

This move is certainly an interesting one for Paul, mostly because he has seen to advertise himself more as a musician and composer in recent months than somebody ready to leap forward into the spotlight. However, this news still excites us — after all, it makes him the only show contestant in the past three seasons to officially land an acting job. Jessica Sanchez is rumored for “Glee,” but nothing has been confirmed there yet.

Phillip Phillips at Disney World – We’ve been reporting recently that a number of the season 11 contestants spent some time at Walt Disney World in Orlando, and now there is even an official video of the reigning champ paying a visit to the “American Idol” Experience attraction at the popular theme park.

Is this even remotely revolutionary? No, but it’s still fun to see Phillip out among the people in the happiest place on earth.

Haley Reinhart talks Lollapalooza – Another season 10 star in Haley has already performed Friday at the famed Chicago concert event, and we’re going to have some videos of it as soon as we are available. For now, though, we’ll just share the following comment courtesy of the Daily Herald:

“It will give me a chance to really make my name,” she said. “The fact that I’m the first ‘Idol’ to do this, and that I’ll be playing for people who might not be familiar with me — I feel like this is a great way to break out a bit, build my audience.”

Hopefully, this event will give Haley an opportunity to showcase her talent to someone beyond just show fans — as Phillip’s “Home” proved at the Olympics, people will flock to good music. They just have to know that it exists first.
