Even with a change to a competitive Friday-night timeslot, “Supernatural” has managed to keep its ratings pretty constant — and with that in mind, you can say that The series has even earned its way towards being on a different night of the week.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that this is the only major change that the show is undergoing this year. We have a new sheriff in town in Jeremy Carver, who is coming back to the series after years away to try and steer the ship in an exiting direction. One of his major focuses? Making sure that the story stays firmly rooted on the Winchester brothers and not just all of the show’s mythology — though he does still plan to include a good chunk of that here and there.
Speaking per TVLine in a new interview, Carver claims that he wants to emphasize just how different these brothers are now versus who they were at the start of the show:
“Part of this season is realizing they didn’t just spend several years together; they really matured in different ways … It’s one thing to get in a car with your brother in year one, but eight years later, you’ve both matured and grown. You’re both changing and trying to find out who you are. There’s a lot of that type of exploration for these guys this year.”
There are some twists coming up early this season when it comes to purgatory and some love interests, and we also are going to see more of Castiel than we did in season 7. Will of this makes for a solid collection of episodes? It’s all really going to be based to us on just how much Carver is able to keep the original essence of the show.
