At times this season on “The Glee Project,” we haven’t always been the easiest on Michael Weisman — and we were pretty stunned last week that he was out of the bottom three in an episode that sent Shanna Henderson packing. However, after watching his performance in the new “music video” for Tuesday night’s new episode, he completely justified his appearance in the final five and then some.
Rather than some of the typical Erik White productions that we have seen on this show over the years, this look at Pink’s “Perfect” is actually done in the style of a full-length movie trailer. There is a story about two guys (in Blake and Michael) fighting over the woman they both love (Aylin), and also a story about how Lily is ridden with guilt after an accident that causes her best friend (Ali) to be stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.
All of the performances here are pretty stellar, but what we really loved about Michael’s was how he used his whole body, and not just his face, to sell the scenes. Our heart broke for him when a pregnant Aylin drove away in a car, especially when he started to chase after it. It’s almost as if every one of the five contenders came in here with something to prove, and the only criticism we have is why someone decided to have Ali — probably the person least suited to rap music in the entire group — tackle a few rap lines.
We honestly don’t know if we could pick a final four here — but if we were basing it on just this product alone, Michael’s underdog story would have to continue. It’s almost strange, but after watching this we almost want to see this story as a film more than we want to see “Glee’s” fourth season.
