‘The X Factor’ USA: Melanie Amaro’s ‘Don’t Fail Me Now,’ hosting rumors

We are going to start out our new edition of “The X Factor” notes with some breaking news — Melanie Amaro has just released her brand-new single “Don’t Fail Me Now” that marks her first major foray into music since winning the first season of the show late last year.

At first listen, we were ready to be critical of the song for being over-produced, and having a melody that sounds at times too much like Jessica Sanchez’s ill-fated coronation song from “American Idol” in “Change Nothing.” However, this is a song that gets better upon every listen. There’s some great club potential here, and the lyrics here are really quite good. We do still wish that the song chose to share more of Melanie’s incredible voice, but this isn’t really a surprise since modern pop radio doesn’t really like to actually show off vocals in this day and age.

You can check out the song below via Us Weekly, and be sure to vote in the poll at the bottom of this article to share your early impressions of this song.

Hosting rumors – On a different note, we would be remiss to at least not spend a moment or two talking about the new rumors from E! News suggesting that former Pussycat Dolls star Ashley Roberts is in heavy talks to become one of the co-hosts for the new season. We don’t really understand why Simon Cowell loves the Pussycat Dolls so much, but if this happens it follows up fired judge Nicole Scherzinger.

We will say this, though — after spending as much money as he did on judges this year, we don’t really expect Simon to hire hosts with big names. Then again, we don’t really need him to. What we need here is someone who is comfortable on stage and can become synonymous with the show like Ryan Seacrest is with “American Idol” or Tom Bergeron with “Dancing with the Stars.”
