Has HBO ever come up with a better tagline than what they have for season 3 of “Boardwalk Empire“? The network released their newest teaser for the show over the weekend, and it is powerful when it comes to what it does show — and also what it doesn’t.
The clip opens with a sight that anyone who watched season 2 should be familiar with — the surprising decision by Nucky (Steve Buscemi) to shoot his protegee Jimmy (Michael Pitt). Now, there’s really no one to question that he is the kingpin of Atlantic City — but that does not mean in the slightest that we are looking at a man here who is completely put together.
Unfortunately, it does not really show us where Nucky has come in the year and a half that the show is jumping from last season to this current one — though the falling of the wedding ring makes us believe that his marriage to Margaret (Kelly Macdonald), who we just saw him proposing to last year, is not going particularly well. The tagline suggests that in order to be the feared and powerful man that Nucky wants to be, he needs to make sacrifices — and having business come at the expense of family seems to be an inevitable problem that he is going to face.
Are you as excited for this season as you were for season 2, or has the death of Jimmy left a bad taste in your mouth?
