One of the joys of a show like “Once Upon a Time” is that there are so many opportunities for interesting characters from the fairy tale world — and even though we are going to see a number of new faces such as Captain Hook and Sleeping Beauty stop by, it’s nice to know that we are not losing some familiar faces in the process.
In a new series of posts on Twitter, Lee Arenberg — the man who did such a fine job as Grumpy last year that we campaigned for him to get a guest acting Emmy nomination — confirmed that he is back in Storybrooke filming the show’s second season. It’s not clear just how many episodes he is going to appear in or what his story will be this time around; unfortunately, there’s also no word as of yet if Amy Acker is going to be back reprising her role as Nova / Astridl, who was Arenberg’s onscreen love interest during a season 1 episode that explained how Grumpy ended up earning his famous moniker.
We though there “Once Upon a Time” is already one episode in the can for the new season, so it seems as though episode 2 is probably the earliest that we could see Arenberg appear unless production is pulling a few tricks on us to keep us guessing (or he just waited to post his “greeting from Storybrooke” online until today). Then again, at the end of the day we’re really just happy that he still is around. The character’s story is clearly tied to both Nova as well as Ginnifer Goodwin’s Snow White, and we also saw him have a brief run-in with Emilie de Ravin’s Belle during his feature episode last season.
