We first teased earlier this summer that the incredibly-underrated Terry Crews (“Get Smart,” “Everybody Hates Chris”) was going to be coming on board “The Newsroom” for an arc this season, and Sunday night’s episode is going to officially mark the actor’s debut.
So who is he going to be playing? It’s best to describe it in the following terms — after receiving some rather nasty threats from an unknown source, Crews’ character is going to ensure that Will McAvoy stays safe until the man responsible for the messages calling for his death is behind bars. Will is not exactly keen on the idea, but it also doesn’t look like he has any other choice.
As for the rest of this episode, both Will and Sloan each manage to anger some guests on TV during some interviews — specifically when it comes to interrupting them when they are trying to dodge certain questions. We know that the pressure is mounting for these two when it comes to finding the combination of honest news and reporting for the sake of ratings, and that will come to a head eventually. Will it happen during this episode? We don’t think so, mostly because this promo clip below suggests to us that the storm is still brewing and Will has yet to really say some fightin’ words.
While we don’t want to see Will in jeopardy for any extended period of time, we do hope that the show still finds a way for Crews to stay put for a while. The show could use a little bit more in the way of humor, and he provides that to go along with an edge.
