Anyone who loves “The Vampire Diaries” has also come to love one other thing about the show over the years — flashbacks are as much of a regular occurrence as people sneezing in everyday life. When you have so many characters who are centuries old, it’s so easy to paint a picture as to who they are just by looking through who they have been in the past.
With all of that in mind, we present for you an all-new story. According to a report from TV Guide, the new season is going to feature a flashback pretty early on to who Claire Holt’s Rebekah was 900 years ago as a way to better understand her present demeanor. Out of all the Originals, she clearly is the one who gets the most wrapped up in her emotions, and we saw the perfect evidence of how she reacts to them in the finale courtesy of causing Matt’s car to swerve off of the road.
As for some other early storylines for the season, get ready to see Damon form an unlikely ally in Tyler (who is really speaking as Klaus), a love interest for Jeremy, and even a steamy love scene early on that will be Elena’s first as a vampire. (Ultimately, we have a feeling that this will end up going a little bit differently than the ones that we see on “True Blood.”)
Hopefully, this season will present us with a better idea as to just who Rebekah is. At times this season, we wanted her to emerge either as this incredibly awful villain on the same level as Klaus, whereas at other moments we were hoping that she would somehow cross over and become a hero. At the end of the day, though, she landed firmly in the middle.
