On Monday night, Syfy is going to finally bring back to television something that we have only really seen so far this summer on the big screen — superheroes. “Alphas” is going to be back, which means that we have another 13 episodes coming up of people with superhuman powers ultimately having to battle each other to maintain balance in the world. It was a fun bit of summer escapism the first time around, and he hope here is that it will be yet again.
If you look below, you can check out our first real look at the upcoming season — including both the trailer and a sneak peek for Monday night’s premiere. Some of the upcoming guest stars for the season include the likes of Sean Astin and Summer Glau — who is going to be reprising a butt-kicking role from the show’s firt season.
The truth of the matter is that when “Alphas” first premiered, it became mired in a search for its own identity. When you look at shows like “The 4400,” “Heroes,” or “No Ordinary Family,” there has already been plenty of shows out there to produce a story about ordinary people with supernatural abilities. However, what makes this show stand out from the mold a little bit is the absolutely excellent David Strathairn, who takes on a role that is a bit more of a medicinal Charles Xavier from the “X-Men” universe. We just hope that the ratings start to move up in the right direction soon — the numbers trailed off near the end of season 1, and for a while there was some speculation that the show would not even return.
