Amy didn’t need to be there. The accident could have been the first show of season 8 with a closed casket (probably would’ve needed to be closed anyway!) and a funeral service. This death was just as shocking as Will being killed on The Good Wife and Commander Taylor on Major Crimes. We fans have vested interests in the characters and actors on our favorite shows. We need closure as surely as the remaining cast members need it.
