‘Teen Mom’ star Amber Portwood faring well behind bars

It may sound strange to hear, but based on some reports that are out there Amber Portwood may actually be handling her life better in prison than she was trying to stay clean and sober in the real world.

Speaking to OK! Magazine in a new interview, the “Teen Mom” star’s brother Shawn Portwood offered the following progress report about how the first month or so behind bars is going:

“She’s surprised at how well she’s doing. She likes being completely clean and sober. It’s good that she’s there because she has a new level of focus and commitment that she couldn’t get on her own.”

“Of course she misses, Leah … But the good news is she gets to talk to her every single day. She makes her mother laugh and smile over the phone. She is such a happy kid.”

While Amber could theoretically spend years behind bars over her numerous probation violations, it’s unlikely that she will serve out that full sentence — especially if she continues to show positive momentum when it comes to battling some of her various demons. Portwood actually made the decision to go to jail voluntarily after realizing that she unable to stay clean while attempting to wear an ankle bracelet and undergo random testing. She was at one point staying with her grandparents in an attempt to urn around her life, but even this wasn’t working for her.

While Portwood continues to sit behind bars, the final season of her “Teen Mom” show is airing on MTV. During it, we have seen her enter rehab, fight with some other patients, and of course have plenty of drama with Leah’s father Gary Shirley.

Do you think Amber will be able to stay clean once she is released? To check out some recent news regarding another “Teen Mom” star in Jenelle Evans, be sure to follow the link here.
