It’s been a rocky year for “Duets” — the show has hardly been a warrior in the ratings, and at times especially during the early episodes we were victim to watching a voting format that really didn’t make much sense at all to ordinary voters. There has also been more cheese than in a cheddar factory with some of the performances.
However, the show did pick up some steam in the live rounds, and by the time the finale Thursday night rolled around, we did at least have some investment in some of the final singers. Granted, we never could fully get into the drama that is John Glosson’s voice, but J Rome is a genuine performer who may have even done well on some other singing shows. Meanwhile, Jason Farol was a fan favorite and an underdog who got better every week, and emerged going into the finale as someone who could be a serious threat to win the whole competition.
Here’s how the final three contestants fared:
3. Jason Farol – We were actually surprised by this, mostly because we thought that he would have the youth vote as the good-looking young guy with Kelly Clarkson’s fan base. How did he not end up in second?
2. John Glosson – John surprised us by inching up into second place, and despite his talent, he couldn’t overtake a man who was the favorite since the beginning.
1. J Rome – All in all, America made the right choice. He was the most talented singer all season long, and he had never landed in he bottom two. Congratulations are in order — and now, we just have to wait and see what sort of career he has.
