While here hasn’t really been much of an “official” list of candidates to be “American Idol” judges beyond just Adam Lambert, we can now take two people off of the list whose names have at least been mentioned here and here in connection with the show.
Mary J. Blige – On the surface, Mary seemed like a pretty perfect fit. She’s good friends with the show’s music mentor Jimmy Iovine, had been around production in the past, and also is current enough hat young viewers will be familiar with her.
We can take her out of contention courtesy of a report from Rolling Stone, which claims that she is going to be an adviser to Adam Levine on “The Voice” this coming season. We already know that his show is far too proud to take on someone from its NBC competitor or a major role in is own show.
Jon Bon Jovi – While he Bon Jovi frontman never really expressed an interest in the gig, he is someone that Jennifer Lopez suggested would be fun to see on the show. We never really thought that producers would be able to afford the famous rocker — and based on what a TMZ source has to say, they don’t even have to worry about it:
“With all systems go for a new album and a mega-tour on the horizon, Jon wouldn’t be able to give those aspiring singers the guidance they deserve … Jon wouldn’t commit to anything unless he can give 100%. With planning for the next album already underway, he’s focused on the band.”
As far as we know, the top contenders for the two current judging openings include Lambert, Miley Cyrus, and Mariah Carey, but we are still so early in the process that we are sure a million other names will be mentioned before a decision is made.
