On Thursday nigh, ABC is going to broadcast the end of what was definitely an interesting experiment for them — “Duets.” Given the show’s low ratings and a premise that really did not allow for that many opportunities for any of the contestants to shine, we have a feeling that this may not be a show too many of us even remember a year from now. With that being said, shouldn’t we at least do what we can to enjoy the feeling while it lasts?
We’re going to look at Thursday night’s competition ultimately in a pair of ways — who deserves to actually receive the contract from Hollywood Records, and who is actually likely earn it following the reveal of America’s vote.
Who should win – J Rome. Really, there shouldn’t even be any debate over this. Back when the contestants were still being scored by that wonky system, Jennifer Nettles’ star pupil routinely was at the top of the leaderboard doing everything from oldies to modern hits that show off his pop and R&B stylings. He’s a strong performer, a great singer, and he may actually have the presence to do well beyond this show.
Who will win – Jason Farol. While J Rome is great, there is such a thing as being too much of a favorite. Just ask Susan Boyle on “Britain’s Got Talent” a few years back. Sometimes, a contestant can be so good that people forget to actually vote for them, and this leads to viewers crowning a surprising winner.
What Jason has going for him is simple — he has been an underdog all season long, and has gotten better and more enthusiastic with every performance that has gone by. There’s also a little something known as him being a good-looking man of Filipino descent, and the voting block of young girls and those who have heritage from the island nation tend to be the most dedicated group out of any on singing competition shows.
We know John Glosson isn’t mentioned here, and it’s not because he is terrible — we just think that him being in the bottom two last week pretty much showed that he really doesn’t have that much of an opportunity win this competition.
