‘The Bachelorette’: Jef Holm, Emily Maynard had religion chat

When it comes to relationships, there are always a couple of differences between people that can tend to cause major long-term conflict. One such example? Ethnic background, and cultural traditions that could conflict with others. Another example? Religion. You don’t have to look any further than the Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes divorce to know that couples do split based on religious differences pertaining to how to raise their children.

We know that Emily Maynard on “The Bachelorette” is a single mom, and we also know that one of her final two contenders in Jef Holm is a Mormon. So is this going to ultimately conflict with her own background and religious beliefs? Based on what Emily is saying now, the two sorted this matter out while taping the show — after all, it was something that had to be discussed before she could hand out the final rose to either him or to Arie Luyendyk, Jr.

Speaking in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that was taken during the “Men Tell All” special taping, Emily revealed that the religion talk was just one of countless conversations that was brought up on the show but never shown to viewers:

“A lot of conversations that we have — that I’ve had with a lot of the guys — aren’t shown … I wish they would [air them], but there’s not enough time. I talked about faith. That’s a huge part of my life. There’s no way I could fall in love and potentially get engaged without having that conversation. [Jef] was very open and honest about everything.”

As for why they don’t show such conversations, the answer is pretty simple — producers know that religion is a hot-button issue, and they also know that viewers prefer to see tender moments and romantic dates than serious conversations on such things as personal beliefs.

Do you think religion is something that Emily should even take into consideration when making her final choice? If you want to check out a video sneak peek for Monday’s finale, be sure to pay a visit to the link here.
