As we wrote about earlier in the day Thursday, “Sons of Anarchy” was one of the biggest snubs from the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards nomination ceremony — but more than just complaining about the show, there were a good many people out there likely wondering just what creator and showrunner Kurt Sutter was going to say about the snub. Last year, the lack of a nomination led to an extensive rant blasting the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences voters with curse words, complains, and just as much fury as you could ever convey over the internet.
As you would expect, there was no way that Sutter could really equal the anger he put out there last year — rather, he just decided to go an unexpected route and actually respond to the snub in a calm, cool, and collected way. Here is what he had to write in a series of posts on Twitter:
“congratulations to ryan murphy
@SteveLevitan @HowardMGordon @louisck @glenmazzara on their emmy nominations … congratulations to john landgraf and his FX team for a record breaking number of emmy nominations. congratulations to @adamlevine @CarsonDaly on the VOICE nomination. apparently cee lo’s kitty did the trick. bring on the cockatoo! and to all of you expecting a c–t-laced emmy diatribe… that’s so 2011. a calm, mature, rational [Kurt Sutter] is much more dangerous.”
If there is one nice thing that comes out of the snub, it is that this furthers the “us against the world” mentality that many of the show’s fans have already come to have over the years. It binds the fan community together, and you know that this is only going to push Sutter and his entire team to be better every year.
Season 5 of the FX series already looks better than ever, as Harold Perrineau (“Lost”) and Joel McHale (“Community”) are set to be two of the guest stars who stop by for guest-starring roles. The official launch of the new season is Tuesday, September 11 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time.
