‘America’s Got Talent’ review: Did Jacob Williams advance?

Thanks in part to a busy night of programming that included finales and live shows all over the place, we are a little bit late when it comes to posting the results of Wednesday night’s “America’s Got Talent” results show. However, we do have them for you now along with some analysis.

In no particular order, here are the four acts that ended up getting a golden ticket into the semifinal round.

Jacob Williams – For the first time that we can remember, we actually have two comics that are advancing to the second round of the live shows without even needing a wild card to do it. Considering that Jacob’s set may not have even been his funniest one he’s done, it’s welcome news to know that he has a fan following out there.

Lightwire Theater – They were the last act to perform, and they used light tricks. Whenever you combine these two things, you almost always have an advancing act.

The Untouchables – While this dance group was deserving, they are also our biggest surprise of the entire night. Usually acts who start off the show have a disadvantage when it comes to the voting, but the young protegees of the Miami All-Stars didn’t even need to phone in assistance from the judges to get the job done.

All Wheel Sports – We were surprised to see Spencer Horsman eliminated following a performance that failed to live up to his talent, but in between this group and Wordspit and the Illest, this was the safer choice. Have we already seen everything they can do, though? This may have been why we, like Howard Stern, may have still given Wordspit the edge despite us not being crazy about their act Tuesday night.
