The CW is getting aggressive in their attempts to lure more young viewers or this upcoming fall TV season. Following some moves that have at least produced a reasonable amount of success already — including moving “Hart of Dixie” to Tuesdays and airing a Batmobile-themed special that brought in more than a million viewers to the network for pretty much the first time all summer — they are now picking up a concert special themed all around the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
In a new announcement by the network, it was revealed that highlights from the festival (which is going to happen in Las Vegas from September 21-22) are going to air on Monday, October 1 — just one day before the official launch of the all season with “Hart of Dixie.” It will also be a two-hour event happening from 8 until 10:00 p.m. Eastern time.
Some of the acts that are going to be featured during this festival include the likes of Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Pink, and Green Day, though the lineup of people who will actually appear on this special is still unclear. In a statement, the network’s head of programming Mark Pedowitz had this to say about picking up the music festival for television:
“What better way to kick off our new fall season than with many of the music industry’s biggest acts on the CW.”
This is the second major acquisition o a product by the network in the last week, as they have previously announced their pickup for the cult favorite “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.” However, there has been no confirmed air date for this yet.
Do you think putting this concert on as a way to preview the fall season is a smart move? If you want to check out the network’s full schedule for the fall, be sure to head over to this link.
