Like with “Fringe,” “Supernatural” was one of the final shows at Comic-Con this year to have a panel discussion — but there was still a lot of great scoop served up when it comes to some new characters, some returning favorites, and just what sort of theme the upcoming collection of episodes on Wednesday nights are going to have. As it turns out, the answer here is “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
-Before we do anything else, let’s start with the inevitable Misha Collins news since we cherish Castiel so — he will be back in season 8, but we don’t know when just yet. Jokingly, Collins said at the panel that he has just “went out for a beer.”
-According to new showrunner Jeremy Carver, the Winchester brothers are going to have a purpose almost from the get-go during the season premiere: “They really want something. It ties in very deeply with the mythology [and is] something very near and dear to their hearts. They are very much united [to make it happen] … Sam, Dean, Kevin, and Crowley all involved in a chase for a power source, ultimately.”
-Unfortunately, this hunt may lead to the worst coming out in some of these characters, and we should probably not expect Crowley to be a friend to Sam and Dean for the entirety of the new season.
-As previously reported, we are going to meet a new love interest for Sam, but there doesn’t seem to be one for Dean on the horizon outside of maybe his car.
-Even though purgatory is going to force the brothers apart for a time, their chemistry and back-and-forth is still going to somehow be an integral part o the show. That dynamic will never be lost.
