When we first saw Ed Asner return to “Hawaii Five-0” last season for a role in August March that he originally played more than 35 years beforehand, we made the assumption that it was a sort of casting designed solely to be a tie-in to the original show and the longtime fans who remembered his first appearance. We did not have any sort of serious thoughts that he could be back on the show for another go … and yet here he is.
According to a report from Deadline, Asner will be back for the second episode of season 3 as the former smuggler March, though there has yet to be any sort of explanation as to why we are going to see this character again — though we are assuming 5-0 may be seeking his help again in another case. Considering that the new season kicks off on September 24 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time (the same slot that it has had since the beginning), that puts the character perfectly in line for an October 1 appearance.
Asner has had quite a busy past year in terms of guest-starring roles — following his turn as a voice actor in the movie “Up,” he has done something similar on “The Cleveland Show,” and has also made physical appearances on the likes of “Hot in Cleveland” alongside Betty White and the USA series “Royal Pains” as the father of Henry Winkler’s Eddie R. Lawson.
