Did we get a sense of what “Jersey Shore” season 6 is going to be like on Thursday night’s new edition of “Snooki & JWoww”? If nothing else, it certainly does seem possible. While Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi did not tell most of her fellow cast members the news that she was pregnant, she did at least proclaim that she and Jionni LaValle were engaged.
This made for what was by and large a pretty happy moment, but there were really two key things worth talking about from the big reveal:
1. Vinny Guadagnino seemed to be a little less happy for Snooki than most of her friends were, though we do have a pretty big reason why — he has hooked up with her multiple times in the past, and has never been as supportive of the relationship (at least on TV) as some of the other cast members.
Can we really blame him for this, though? It may not necessarily be that he still has feelings for her so much as it is that he sees her moving on with her life, and he’s still single and looking for someone.
2. Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino was not present, partially because this was when he was going through rehab and all of those struggles. However, his absence was a yet another reminder of why “Jersey Shore” as a franchise is a shadow of its former self — there’s no fighting anymore. The reality has been sucked out of reality TV, and what we are left with are a group of people who have enormous fanbases, millions of dollars, and are so self-aware that they watch what they say and when they say it in front of the cameras. Snooki’s also not the biggest Situation fan, and this was only realistic in the way that she probably wouldn’t have him around an engagement party in real life, either.
We are assuming that at some point either later this season or before “Jersey Shore” starts filming Snooki tells everyone the news, and this gives Vinny a little bit more time to process this.
What do you think of the way Snooki handled the engagement reveal to the “Jersey Shore” cast, and do you think this episode really summed up best how far the show has changed from its crazy and hard-partying roots?
