NBC’s ‘Community’ season 4 spoilers: What we’ve been waiting for

Now that creator Dan Harmon is more or less gone from “Community,” the new producers and writers are trying to find a way to still bring in the loyal fans — and one of their techniques at the moment seems to be trying to convince diehard fans to come back by seeing some stories that we have been waiting long to see finally play out.

One of them, for instance, is apparently finally meeting Jeff Winger’s dad. Sources confirm that we will meet the deadbeat father to Joel McHale’s character at some point during season 4, and it should lead to a pretty emotional meeting between the tw parties. What we don’t know, however, is who is going to take on the part. Harmon had famously said that both he and McHale wanted to see Bill Murray in the role, but we have a feeling that this will be difficult — Murray is not an easy actor to get a hold of for gigs, and he rarely ever does work in television.

In reality, the most likely candidate to play Jeff’s father is someone who we either have seen in television before, or is a big-name actor who occasionally does make sporadic appearances for the small screen. The problem the show faces is that ever since they had Jack Black on for a season 1 episode — one that was ironically one of the worst of the entire series — they have not exactly been a hotbed for big-name guest stars. With their low ratings and Friday-night timeslot, they also have to be aware of the fact that the only reason an A-lister like Murray would be interested is if they are a major fan of the show (and they really should be).

Who do you want to see play Jeff’s father, and do you think that now is the time that we should finally meet him?
