By the time the “Game of Thrones” Comic-Con panel happens this weekend, will anyone even be in attendance? Based on the way in which some of the show’s stars are dropping out, you really have to wonder.
Only a matter of hours after it was first unveiled that series star Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) was forced to drop out of the panel at the San Diego convention due to scheduling conflicts, the show’s official Twitter page has also confirmed that due to a broken ankle injury that he suffered away from work, Kit Harrington (Jon Show) will also be unable to make the panel. With these two absences confirmed, the panel is now set to consist of Rose Leslie (Ygritte), Alfie Allen (Theon), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys), Michelle Fairley (Catelyn), and Richard Madden (Robb). Series author George R.R. Martin is once again set to moderate to the joy of fans everywhere.
While this news is truly a bummer for those who were excited to see more of Harrington at the panel this year, it is for the best if it will enable him to recover in time to show up to production for season 3 in tip-top shape. Considering that the majority of Harrington’s work is shot in the frozen areas of Iceland, it’s not exactly the sort of terrain that you want to walk around in while suffering from a major injury. Production is actually keeping showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss away from the convention this year, but they have a great deal of work to do before season 3 launches in the spring of next year.
