The Winchester brothers have had their share of romance on “Supernatural” over the years, but for season 8 Sam may be getting a chance to take his personal life to a level it hasn’t quite been in some time — and it’s all courtesy of some new casting intel that has just hit the web.
The CW has announced that Toronto-born actress Liane Balaban — whose credits include guest appearances on “Covert Affairs” and “Extras” — is set to star on the show as a “tragically-damaged soul” known as Amelia, who will over time reveal herself to have a gigantic heart and potentially be the perfect person at the perfect time to show up in Sam’s life.
Balaban has her work cut out for her in two ways with this role — convincing “Supernatural” fans that there is something worthwhile in sitting through another romance-themed storyline, and also just trying to find a way to do something that few past love interests have been able to do — stay out of harm’s way.
The new season of “Supernatural” will premiere on its new night Wednesday, October 3 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, where it will be preceded by a new superhero series in “Arrow” that the network is hoping will be their heir apparent to “Smallville” just over a year after the Tom Welling drama came to a close. We don’t know how long Balaban will be featured on the show, but we hope that first and foremost she is given something pretty exciting to do.
