‘American Idol’ notes: Haley Reinhart, Jessica Sanchez, David Cook

For our Sunday edition of “American Idol” notes, we are mostly going to be focusing on two subjects — baseball and touring.

Play ball! – Who knew that Haley Reinhart had some softball skills? The season 10 contestant is going to be joining season 7 champ David Cook today for a round of softball in conjunction with the MLB All-Star Game happening in Kansas City on Tuesday night, and the two are going to be joined by some pretty big celebrities — including “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm (who in our mind is worth the price of admission pretty much anywhere), “Glee’s’ Chord Overstreet, and former Olympian Jennie Finch.

Cook hails from Kansas City and still owns a home there, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that this is not his only involvement with the All-Star game over the next several days; he’ll also be performing the National Anthem prior to the start of the Home Run Derby Monday night. At least if he doesn’t fare so well at softball, it’s pretty much a given that his singing will be fantastic.

It’s too bad that the game couldn’t find a way to get Scotty McCreery to turn up — after all, he’s the one “American Idol” star with some serious baseball experience.

David open to performing with Jessica – Now, we turn to some other David Cook news relating to his upcoming string of concerts in the Philippines — a country that has a rather large “American Idol” following courtesy of a number of past contestants — including David Archuleta and Jessica Sanchez — being of at least partial Filipino descent.

Speaking to Ricky Lo of The Philippine Star, Cook said that if he was offered a chance to perform alongside Jessica or at the same event as her, he would welcome the opportunity:

“I’d love to, absolutely! She’d be a really tough act to follow but yes, absolutely I’d love to do a duet or a concert with her. That would be challenging,”

Speaking of Jessica, if you haven’t heard her version of “Party Rock Anthem” with Heejun Han and Deandre Brackensick fro the “American Idol” tour yet, be sure to check it out. You’ll be very happy you did. Otherwise, stay tuned for some more of the latest show news!
