We have a pair of new stories to share about the second season of “Smash” — and while one of them revolves around a new face making its way into the world of Karen Cartwright and “Bombshell,” the other is a familiar face that we are going to be seeing a lot more of.
Let’s start with the latter bit of news. According to Deadline, Leslie Odom Jr. has been promoted to a series regular for season, where he will continue to take on the role of the dancer Sam — a man who just so happens to also be a love interest for Christian Borle’s series regular Tom. In a world where we have seen so many other relationships crumble (Karen and Dev, Ivy and pretty much everyone she hooks up with), let’s hope that this is one pairing that actually lasts for a while.
With Deb actually out of the picture, Karen is going to have some more company back on the homefront. Krysta Rodriguez — best known to TV viewers for a brief appearance on “Gossip Girl,” but known to everyone else for her theatre work — is going to be the last new series regular of the season. Her character’s name is Ana, and she is going to be the new roommate of Katharine McPhee’s character who also has some dreams of making it big on Broadway. In case you are wonder how this casting came about, know this — new “Smash” showrunner Josh Safran worked for many years on “Gossip Girl,” and he knows better than anyone what sort of talents Rodriguez could be bringing to the table here. As for whether or not Ana will be involved in “Bombshell” in any way, that much is unclear.
