Although “90210” is for sure coming back for a fifth season, it looks as though there are going to be some major changes to go along with it — specifically in the form of a character saying goodbye.
According to a report from TVLine, Justin Deeley’s character of Austin is going to be written out of the show during the season premiere airing in August, and one of the reasons why seems to be that he simply does not have that much to do anymore. For a while in season 4, there were some sparks that were flying between this cowboy and AnnaLynne McCord’s Naomi — but as things started to dissipate between the two, it only makes some sense that he would be saying goodbye. As a matter of fact, we actually wish that some other shows would be a little bit more willing to cut out some of their excess characters in order to keep the storyline a little bit more focused. (Do you hear that, “Glee” and “True Blood”?)
“90210” does need to stage a little bit of a comeback this coming season, having been one of many CW shows on the schedule to see a mass erosion of viewership as viewers opted to check out other programming on Tuesday nights, such as the aforementioned “Glee” or some programming on cable. While this move does not guarantee anything, hopefully it shows that the writers do have a plan for a good, meaty story that could get eyeballs back checking out their show.
