In honor of this being the Fourth of July, we are starting off this edition of “American Idol” with a patriotic story courtesy of the reigning champ Phillip Phillips.
Ready for the PBS special – On Wednesday night, Phillip is set to make an appearance at the network’s annual 4th of July spectacular in Washington DC, and it marks his first public performance since wrapping up his run on the show and undergoing surgery for some kidney problems.
In a post on Twitter early Wednesday morning, Phillip proclaimed to everyone that he was on his way to the nation’s capital:
“On the way to D.C. to perform at The Capitol Fourth! Early start, gonna get some rest on the plane ha its gonna be on PBS tonight so tune in”
Phillip is the second contestant from this past season to appear on PBS, as Jessica Sanchez took part in the rain-shortened Memorial Day special earlier this year. Immediately following this special, he is going to be taking back off to Detroit in order to take part in the beginning of the tour with the rest of the top ten.
Jessica Sanchez talks tour – Speaking of that tour, Jessica Sanchez is speaking out about how excited she is to hit the stage and perform in front of fans all over North America. Considering the general lack of inexperience the contestants have at some major venues, she is also predicting that some clumsy moments will ensue.
Speaking out to Zap2It in a new interview, here is what Sanchez had to say on the subject:
“I’m excited. It’s going to be our first show and we’re going to have no idea what we’re doing on stage, so it’s going to be great to see us all flopping around and falling on stage … We’ve just been goofing around a lot [in rehearsals]. It’s going to be hilarious to watch. I’m going to be dancing, and couple of other people are going to be dancing too with me, and it’s just going to be crazy to see us acting like fools.”
If you don’t like all the music, don’t worry — based on what Jessica is saying, the show may very well double as part of a comedy tour. (Be sure to check out some of our other Jessica Sanchez stories!)
A new David recording – Even though David Archuleta is still in the early stages of his Mormon mission, he is continuing to find even more ways to get some music out there — including a snippet from one of the tracks off of his new album “BEGIN.”
The audio clip (which you can hear over at this link) is a cover of the Keane hit “Somewhere Only We Know” that sounds rather soulful — we really just can’t wait to hear more of it.
As always, be sure to check back for some more of the latest “American Idol” news!
