Are Outlander season 4 locations already being scouted?
Today, the Daily Record is reporting that the show’s production is circling potentially around Cambusbarron, a village in Stirling, Scotland with a population of a few thousand people. While we would assume filming would be done more on the outskirts of the village, this gives you a sense as to the geography that is being considered. The site also reports that there are plans for production to be done there for up to a good year.
So what could all of this mean? The big thing is that this reinforces further our notion that even with the story shifting further away from Scotland, Outlander does hold a great affection for the country. They also already have an established crew there, and it makes sense to use the locations that are there as much as possible more so than it does having to go out and scout new places in other countries. It’s obviously still possible that there will be some other places scouted, but we do think that parts of Scotland could easily replicate America on the series.
For now, a good percentage of the cast and crew is in the process of filming the remainder of season 3 in South Africa, where they will be until June. From there, the cast will get a little bit of time off, but as this report suggests, the production is almost a year-round thing, and the same goes for some of the work that the writers put into the story behind the scenes. They will continue to push hard over the coming months to ensure that the story is ready for whenever season 4 production begins — odds are, it will be later this year, but we’ve learned that it’s better not to pin down specific dates and hold to them. At this point last year, we don’t think anyone was saying that season 3 would not premiere until this fall.
