It took several years for it to happen, but last season “Psych” we finally got the opportunity to witness Shawn and Juliet finally getting together. With this, the show bravely tackled something that just about every program out there dreads — trying to find a way to keep a show going strong even after the principal couple gets together.
Speaking to in an Entertainment Weekly chat, series star / master of all things amazing James Roday claims that the show is making a concentrated effort trying to make certain that the entire show does not evolve around this romance, and stays very much true to form when it returns
“My biggest fear with Shawn and Jules — and there are many examples on other shows of when the ‘Will they or won’t they?’ finally comes together, it just isn’t good anymore, and I think because of that we’re proceeding with caution. We’re trying to keep it real. Predominantly, their relationship is based on work because that’s where they spend the most amount of time — so not a lot changes on that front. And they’re just kind of figuring out what they are outside of work and taking very slow baby steps in doing it so that nothing feels forced or strange.”
With all this in mind, the show will still concentrate very much on the friendship between Shawn and Gus — which is of course what we have come to know and love so much about the series. However, Shawn’s relationship will of course lead to new tests and as he tries to balance every aspect of his life — including Gus.
Are you excited for the wait to finally be over soon for new episodes — and for potential pineapple sightings?
