Less than a week after she gave a teary farewell on “The Today Show” in one of the cruelest ways imaginable by her employer, Ann Curry is finally taking back to the internet to at least share a few thoughts here and there.
In her first post on Twitter since really the entire scandal started to unfold, Curry gave a heartfelt message in celebration of America on the Fourth of July:
“236 years old and just getting started. Happy 4th America. You are beautiful.”
Curry also encouraged a fan and current journalism student to “study hard,” saying that the world needs “great journalists” at a time when there are many who are becoming too opinion-based and skim over checking facts and chasing leads. Curry was known for both during her “Today” stint, but this alone was not enough to save her job. Reports suggested that both NBC and Matt Lauer were not satisfied with how she handled some of the show’s lighter fare, and she now has been given a new title so that she can cover international stories all over the world.
Lauer is on leave from “Today” this week, and Curry has also yet to give her first report with her new title at NBC News. Next week will mark the official regime change featuring Savannah Guthrie as the new co-anchor for the show — even though she hosted the show along with Matt last Friday, the network did not make it official that she had landed the job until a little bit later in the day.
Stay tuned — as soon as Curry opens up more about her exit, we will have more details on it here. Be sure to also check out our analysis as to why Curry’s exit may be more the fault of “Today” as a whole than any individual move that she made.
