For our second “American Idol” notes of July 3, we have a pair of videos to share — and while one is just fun, the other is a showcase of some vocal power.
Kelly’s photo shoot – Let’s start with Kelly Clarkson, mostly because we absolutely love this video from Lucky Magazine’s first-ever music issue photo shoot. Is there any singer out there who is as honest as Kelly is on a regular basis? In this video, she claims to hate having to wear stiletto heels, that she has been working out more thanks to having a boyfriend, and that the first thing she bought with her money after winning the first season of the show was a car for her friend who originally told her to audition in the first place.
The amazing thing about listening to Kelly talk is that she has somehow managed to preserve the person she was before the show, and just give her a life that allows her to do such things as photo shoots and sold-out concert tours. This is why she is one of the few former contestants we never grow tired of watching.
Katharine McPhee’s National Anthem – Speaking of really successful former contestants, Katharine McPhee (who may be known now just as much for “Smash” as she is for placing second back in season 5) has now gotten attention courtesy of a version of “The Star-Splangled Banner” that she performed in Bryant Park as a part of a 4th of July event with Tide.
You can watch the performance below via Jason the Gleek and Mjsbigblog — it is every bit as good as you would expect the song to be. Nobody sings the National Anthem better than “American Idol” alumni … except for maybe Christina Aguilera when she sings the lyrics properly.
A brief Carrie Underwood note – While you may not know who Rachel Holder is, you are certainly familiar with Carrie Underwood — and the season 4 star has reportedly co-written a song called “Lord Help Me” on the up-and-coming singer’s new album. This is not the first time that we have heard Carrie mentioned as a co-writer in recent weeks, as she also recent helped on one of Lauren Alaina’s tracks in “Eighteen Inches.”
As Always, be sure to check out some of our other “American Idol” notes and stay tuned for more!
