We’re not quite sure we understand what Katie Couric is going for in some of her new promos for her upcoming daytime talk show — but we should at least give her some credit for trying something different.
The latest clip to promote her series (premiering on Monday, September 10) features the former “Today Show” and CBS Evening News anchor comparing her childhood to “Leave It To Beaver,” and saying that she would not be the person that she is today were it not for her parents. This is all rather genuine and sweet, but we do still have to ask the question — how is it relevant to the show? It almost feels as though Couric is running for President as much as she is hosting a talk show, and it would be great to see more of what she actually plans to do with the show and less biographical information from her. Everyone has a story, and diehard fans already know a good bit about the person that she is.
Even with this complaint, though, Couric’s show easily does still have the best promotional campaign of anything coming out on TV this fall in daytime. As much as we love “Survivor” host Jeff Probst, we still can’t make any sense at all about his promos for his show, and why they transform him from a guy who has hosted a survival-themed show on an island to one of the members of the Wiggles.
We are going to have full coverage of everyone starting up shop in daytime this fall, so stay tuned. For now, we’ll post Couric and Probst’s promos below and pose the simple question to you — which one of these ads do you think is better? If you haven’t heard about Couric’s views on “The Today Show” in the midst of the Ann Curry firing, be sure to check out this story.
