Following some recent under-the-radar discussions of their sexuality such as “The Big Bang Theory” star Jim Parsons and Matt Bomer of “White Collar,” CNN host Anderson Cooper— who recently has also crossed into the world of daytime — made a statement in a new letter to The Daily Beast this week that he is gay, and he no longer interested in keeping every detail about his personal life private.
Here is just a small sampling from the letter:
“It’s become clear to me that by remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long, I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something – something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid. This is distressing because it is simply not true.
“I’ve also been reminded recently that while as a society we are moving toward greater inclusion and equality for all people, the tide of history only advances when people make themselves fully visible. There continue to be far too many incidences of bullying of young people, as well as discrimination and violence against people of all ages, based on their sexual orientation, and I believe there is value in making clear where I stand.
“The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.”
With the way in which Cooper handled this issue, he may be able to put even less attention on his personal life than ever. Now he will no longer be bothered by some of the rumors and badgering that has gone on in the media, and most importantly he has made a decision for himself rather than allowing someone else to force his hand.
Are you happy that Cooper chose to start off this week in such a brave way? Be sure to check out some of our other “Anderson” highlights!
